HOW TO MAKE USE OF THE BENEFITS
EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT HOW INTERRAIL PASS BENEFITS WORK
First of all, you need to have an Interrail Pass! Check? Secondly, your Interrail Pass needs to be valid. When you order an Interrail Pass, you get to choose its start and end date. You can take advantage of Pass Benefits during these dates.
- You can only take advantage of free benefits on dates you hace written in the Travel Calendar on your Interrail Pass. If it’s a free overnight ferry, you can enter either the date of departure or arrival in your Travel Calendar
- For all other benefits, your don’t need to specify the date in your Travel Calendar.
- You can take advantage of all benefits on any day your Interrail Pass is valid. Benefits can usually be arranged on the spot. For some, particularly international ferries, you need to book them in advance. You can find details for individual benefits in each country above. We’re always looking to add great new offers. From time to time, benefits become unavailable. While this does not happen often, if you’re planning your trip to make use of a specific benefit, we recommend first confirming availability with the company that offers it. You can contact the company directly, or get in touch with our team.
If you have a flexi pass with a specific number of travel days, such as a Global Pass – 10 days in a 1 month, you must fill in the date in the travel calendar of your Interrail pass before boarding the first train, bus or free ferry that you take every day. Decide on the fly when to use each day of travel.
You can find the travel calendar on your pass. It is the large rectangular box with a number of spaces where you can fill each day of travel. It is very important that you remember to fill in the day of travel before going up. If you forget it, it would be as if you were traveling without a ticket and could be fined.
Fill in the date so that the day appears just above the month. Be careful when writing the date because, if you make a mistake, you must enter the correct date in the next box and, therefore, you would lose a day of travel.
If you travel on a direct night train that departs after 7 p.m. (19:00) and arrive at your last stop after 4 a.m. (04:00), you just have to register the arrival date in the travel calendar. More information about the 7 p.m. rule
Know the rule of 7 p.m. It is very useful if you have a flexi pass (for example, Global Pass – 10 days in 1 month) because you can save valuable travel days. The rule means that you only need to use 1 day of travel when traveling on trains leaving after 7 p.m. (19:00) and arrive at their final stop after 4 a.m. (04:00)
You can use your Interrail Pass to travel from 00:01 on the first day of its validity. For example, if the Interrail Pass is valid from August 6, you will not be able to benefit from the 7 p.m rule. during the night of August 5.
If you get on one or more trains leaving after 7 p.m. (19:00) and that they arrive at their final destination after 4 a.m. (04:00), then you only have to enter the day of arrival in the travel calendar, even if you leave the train before 4 a.m.
If you are planning to take the ÖBB Nightjet train from 18:58 from Rome to Munich / Vienna, we have good news. The friendly ÖBB staff has decided that the 7 p.m. It applies to this train, so you can save yourself another day of travel!
The rule of 7 p.m. It applies to all free night ferry crossings, regardless of the time of departure and arrival. You decide if you want to register the departure or arrival date in the travel calendar. You do not have to use travel days for ferry crossings with discount, but you just have to show your pass to benefit from the discount.
If you place an order for an Interrail Global Pass – 5 days in a 15 day period, this means that you can choose any 5 days to travel in a 15 day period.
Travel days do not have to be consecutive. You can decide when to use them throughout your trip. A pass like this is ideal if you do not plan to travel every day. Below you will find your options:
Interrail Global Pass
5 days of travel in 15 days, or 7, 10 or 15 days of travel in 1 month.
Interrail One Country Pass
3, 4, 6 or 8 days throughout 1 month.
A day of travel lasts 24 hours, from midnight to midnight. Every day of travel you have access to the railway networks of the countries in which your Interrail Pass is valid.
There are 2 types of Interrail Passes with different numbers of travel days. The right pass for you will depend on how much time you plan to spend traveling by train during your trip to Europe.
TRAVEL DAYS WITH A FLEXI PASS
If you have a flexi pass, for example a Global Pass of 5 days in a period of 15 days, you can get on and off the trains in 5 days of travel within the period of 15 days. For example, if your pass is valid from June 1 to June 15, you can choose any 5 days to travel by train during this period. Travel days do not have to be consecutive and you decide when to use them throughout your trip.
You must enter the date of each travel day in the travel calendar of your pass before boarding the first free train, bus or ferry each day.
TRAVEL DAYS WITH A CONTINUOUS PASS
If you have a continuous pass, for example a Global Pass of 22 continuous days, you have 22 days of travel and you can enjoy the train trips during each of the days of that period. For example, if your pass is valid from September 1 to September 22, you can travel by train each of these days.
With the continuous pass you do not need to fill in the dates you travel.
